travel

Check out this curated guide to the best travel deals on Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Travel Tuesday.

Worst holiday travel traffic ever. A record number of Americans are traveling for Thanksgiving this year. 72 million people are planning to hit the road between November 25 and December 1, with an additional 10 million taking to the skies. Tuesday was the busiest travel day for those leaving town, while Sunday is expected to be the busiest for those returning. (Axios Boston)

Windiest November on record. Chicago might be known as the Windy City, but Bostonians know the wind here is no joke. The average wind speed for November 2025 has been 37 mph, up 6 mph from last year’s record-breaking speeds. (Boston 25)

Black Friday will be quieter this year. 45% of shoppers have already started their holiday shopping, up from 28% a year ago, with 25% saying they’ll be done by Thanksgiving. Instead of impulse-buying doorbuster deals, many shoppers take advantage of year-round deals. (Boston Globe)

Yes, the buses are getting slower. Congestion is worse on the roads, creating a domino effect that slows and bunches buses according to TransitMatters. Speeds in 2024 dropped 5% from 2023, with Route 1, 23, 28, and Silver Line 4 and 5 taking the crown for the slowest routes and the routes that bunch the most. (Axios Boston)

What I’m listening to this week:

  • Throughline discusses The Mother of Thanksgiving. Or, how we ended up with the Victorian Civil War aesthetic and myth of Thanksgiving.

  • Sarah Marshall is back on You’re Wrong About with Sarah Archer continuing their deconstruction of the evolution of Christmas with Cold War Santa. This year, the Sarahs track the change from World War II Christmas through the Cold War. Cultural touchstones include A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and aluminum trees.

  • Plus, give last year’s intro to how Santa became Santa a listen, too.

  • Pluribus: the official podcast. Hosted by an editor of the show, they dig into the creative processes and inspirations behind the show with everyone from Vince Gilligan to Rhea Seehorn to other writers, directors, and editors. You can listen on Apple or Spotify.

  • Get tips on how to handle uncomfortable holiday dinner table conversation from this week’s episode of Vibe Check.

  • Boston City Hall’s slide is going viral again. As a reminder, this is Boston Cop Slide, and Jamie Loftus does a great deep dive into the who, why, and how in the boston slide cop episode of sixteenth minute of fame. Plus, her episode on the wicked witch of the east, bro feels relevant.
