food & restaurants
Boston officially has a Michelin-starred restaurant. The 2025 Michelin Northeast Cities Guide was unveiled last night, announcing Three 1 One as Boston’s only starred restaurant this year. Where the city shone was in the Bib Gourmand and Recommended categories, with over 20 restaurants listed, including foodie favorites Fox & the Knife, PAGU, Nightshade Noodle Bar, and Urban Hearth. (savor + roam)
North End welcomes new eatery. North End Lobster Co., a new food spot from the masterminds behind Giacomo’s, has opened at 204 Hanover St. The menu features familiar seafood favorites like lobster bisque and clam chowder, plus fish and chips, oysters, grilled octopus, and more. (Boston Restaurant Talk)
Portland’s Lunchonette named Best New Restaurant. Eater published its list of Best New Restaurants for 2025. Of the fifteen, one New England restaurant was mentioned: Lunchonette in Portland, Maine, run by Angela Lee and her husband, Portland native Alex LeBlanc. Tucked into a miniature space over 100 years old, there’s a strict “no Top 40” rule for the music, and the menu is filled with items that reflect the couple’s experiences. Dishes include bibimbap with za’atar tofu, root remoulade, baba ganoush, and miso-marinated pork sandwiches.
Reminder: Boston continues to fight food insecurity. The government shutdown is finally over, but Bostonians are still working hard to ensure their neighbors have food on their table this holiday season. Whether you’re looking to donate, volunteer, or need help, here are some great food resources for the Greater Boston Area:
ABCD Turkey Drive + Community Pantry Drive (South End)
Beverly Bootstraps (Beverly, MA)
Boston Food Pantry (Boston, MA)
Community Cooks (various locations)
Charlestown Community Fridge (Charlestown, MA)
Eastie Farm (East Boston, MA)
East Boston YMCA Holiday Food Drive (East Boston)
Jennifer Coolfridge (Cambridge, MA)
La Colaborativa (Chelsea, MA)
Newtown Food Pantry + Community Fridge (Newton, MA)
Project Bread (East Boston, MA)
The Greater Boston Food Bank (South Boston, MA)
The Salem Pantry (Salem, MA)
Watertown Community Fridge (Watertown, MA)
What I cooked this week:
Marry Me Gnocchi from Delish. This take on their viral Marry Me Chicken recipe turns gnocchi into little flavor bombs. Instead of topping with parmesan, I melt parmesan and basil right into the mix. This one will be added to the weekly meal rotation.
A Provencal Beef Stew (minus the bacon).
Planning Thanksgiving:
When it’s just the two of you, try Duck legs with cranberries and orange.
travel
Waiting to be reimbursed for your delayed flight? That payment is never going to come. The Department of Transportation officially rolled back that rule — something it announced it planned to do back in September. (Afar)
You’re now free to fly directly to Milan or Barcelona. JetBlue announced on Nov 19 that they are adding two new seasonal direct flights to European destinations: Milan, Italy, and Barcelona, Spain. Flights will originate from Boston and begin in Spring 2026. (CNBC)
Hilton revamps its loyalty program. Hilton added a new top tier to its loyalty program, allowing members to receive automatic premium upgrades, cash, and reward stays. (The Points Guy)
lifestyle + culture
Boston’s rent control problem. Rent control may be on the ballot next fall, but according to Mayor Michelle Wu, this won’t fix Boston’s housing issue. Given Boston's high-salaried professions, many people can (and do) afford Boston’s high rents. Rent control might stop rates from spiking, but it won’t bring current costs down. (Boston.com)
Nothing beats Market Basket — except maybe Wegmans. A new report spotlighted New England’s favorite grocery store, Market Basket, for its quality and prices, which are, on average, 15% lower than those of area grocery stores. Wegmans, the Rochester-based grocery chain with outposts in the Boston area, doesn’t offer prices as low as Market Basket's, but customers consistently love the quality of its products. (CBS News)
What I’m watching this week:
Netflix’s new psychological thriller, The Beast in Me. Claire Danes plays a reclusive best-selling author who turns her bizarre neighbor into the focus of her next project. This one makes you put your phone down and pay attention.
What I’m reading this week:
To prepare for the holidays: Cheese Magic: Seasonal Recipes, Plates, and Pairings by Erika Kubrick
