This Is How Winter Is Supposed to Taste 🍸

Winter doesn’t have to feel heavy or indulgent in ways that don’t serve you. It’s a season to slow down, feel grounded, and still savor the ritual of a beautiful drink. Enter Vesper, Pique’s newest release—and my favorite upgrade to winter sipping.

Pique is known for blending ancient botanicals with modern science to create elevated wellness essentials, and Vesper is no exception. This non-alcoholic, adaptogenic aperitif delivers the relaxed, social glow of a cocktail—without alcohol or the next-day regret.

It’s what I reach for when I want something special in my glass on a cold evening. Each sip feels celebratory and calming, with a gentle mood lift, relaxed body, and clear, present mind. No haze. No sleep disruption. Just smooth, grounded ease.

Crafted with L-theanine, lemon balm, gentian root, damiana, and elderflower, Vesper is sparkling, tart, and beautifully herbaceous—truly crave-worthy.

Winter isn’t about cutting back. It’s about choosing what feels good. And Vesper makes every pour feel like a yes.

boston news

food & restaurants

The Halal Guys opened a new eatery in DTX. According to Boston Restaurant Talk, the 241 Washington St location is the latest in a handful of Halal Guys eateries across the Greater Boston Area.

Nova is also now open in DTX. A Halal asian-fusion eatery opened up this week at 131 Tremont St.

View Boston to close eateries this spring. Both dining options — The Beacon, a sit-down restaurant offering American and New England classics, and Stratus, a cocktail bar — are scheduled to close this spring. According to the Boston Business Journal, this could displace up to 79 employees. The observation deck, however, will remain open as View Boston shifts focus.

World Central Kitchen comes to the Cape. Chef and restaurateur José Andrés is mobilizing his nonprofit to help ensure that thousands of people without power can still have hot meals.

What I’m cooking this week:

Paired with:

  • Saperavi by Marmenio Wines. A rustic Georgian (the country) red with earthy, dark berry tasting notes, high acidity, and good grip. Found at Petrova Chocolates (61 Salem St, Boston, MA).

travel

The Orange Line will be closed between Forest Hills and Back Bay from February 28 through March 8. The Commuter Rail between Forest Hills, Ruggles, and South Station will be free for riders to help compensate for the shutdown, per the MBTA. The closure is to work on "signal upgrades.”

Flights + trains back on schedule post-blizzard. Boston Logan International Airport, Amtrak, the MBTA, and Commuter Rail are all back to normal schedules following the blizzard that hit the region on Monday. According to CBS News Boston, nearly 1,000 flights were cancelled on Monday, and an additional 450 on Tuesday.

Global Entry, however, is still shut down. And TSA Agents continue to work without pay as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security remains shut down over funding issues. According to The Points Guy, many airports’ Mobile Passport Control programs remain operational, as do some Enhanced Passport Control programs.

These National Parks have ditched their reservation systems. Yosemite, Glacier, and Arches National Parks have ended the programs that helped curb overtourism, according to The Points Guy.

lifestyle + culture

The blizzard was so bad that the Boston Globe didn’t print. For the first time ever, The Boston Globe didn’t physically print and deliver a newspaper.

These canoes are older than the pyramids. Radiocarbon dating reveals that canoes found at the bottom of Wisconsin’s Lake Mendota are between 700 and 5,200 years old. According to the BBC, 16 canoes have been discovered and recovered since 2021.

Yes, Mercury is in retrograde. Lasting through March 20, Astrologer Chani Nicholas advises that now is a good time to make sure you’re heading in the direction you want to be. Expect mix-ups and messes. “Pay attention to your body’s signals. Notice the emotions that come to the surface in your interactions. And stay flexible and adaptable,” she writes.

What I’m reading this week:

  • Spook Country (Blue Ant #2) by William Gibson. The work of marketing company Blue Ant continues, tapping former punk-rocker-turned-writer Hollis Henry to, on the surface, investigate place-based, locative VR art pieces. The artist she’s been tasked with finding also happens to work on (Iraq War-era) military navigation systems as his day job. For fans of Severance and the podcast, Articles of Interest.

  • Empire of AI by Karen Hao. Between the Substack post that dropped the Dow 800 points this week and Anthropic’s Chief Safety Officer quitting to study poetry, this is a timely inside look at the rise of Sam Altman and OpenAI.
