Michelin-recommended La Padrona is being sued for wage theft. A new lawsuit alleges the Back Bay eatery forced wait staff to share their tips with kitchen staff and managers via a tip pool. This includes shift “captains” who perform managerial duties and “bussers” working primarily in the kitchen. (Axios Boston)
Goodbye, Crudo. The sushi spot first opened its doors at 78 Salem St in 2015, but closed this week. No reason was given, and there is no indication of new plans for the building at this time. (Boston Restaurant Talk)
A White Castle vending machine is coming to Boston Logan. Travelers passing through Boston Logan’s Terminal A will now be able to order what no one else in New England can: a hot White Castle burger. Powered by AI, this burger vending machine will offer a variety of Sliders, including the Original, Cheddar Bacon Cheese, and the Chicken and Cheese Slider. (Boston.com)
What I’m cooking this week:
Curry chicken pot pie. There are two different recipes I bounce between: this one from Adventures in Cooking, which includes a curry crust. Or, Alton Brown’s from The Food Network, which calls for a puff pastry biscuit topping instead of a proper crust.
A variation of HelloFresh’s Sweet Chili Pork Bowls, adding sauteed broccoli.

Orange and Green Line closures are coming.
Friday, December 5, through Sunday, December 7, the MBTA Orange Line will be closed between Forest Hills and Back Bay. Shuttle buses will be available.
The MBTA Green Line will be closed between North Station and Babcock St, Kenmore, Heath St, and Copley/Back Bay from Monday, December 8, through Monday, December 22. The MBTA is recommending using the Orange Line between North Station and Back Bay.
Prepare to pay if you still don’t have a Real ID. Beginning in February 2026, if you show up to the airport without proper identification — either a Real ID, passport, or other federally accepted forms of ID — you will be fined $45. Plus, you’ll have to go through additional screening to verify your identity. (Afar)
lifestyle + culture
2026 might be a record-breaking year for ballot questions. Lawmakers may ask Bay Staters to weigh in on a long list of issues in the next election, including rent control, recreational cannabis, same-day voter registration, and the state income tax rate. (WBUR)
What I’m listening to this week:
You’re Dead to Me: comedy + facts + British accents = a low-stress commute or cooking companion.
In preparation for seeing Rituals for Remembering: Maria Maghslena Campos-Pons and Ana Mendieta before it leaves the MFA in February, I’m listening to the first season of Death of an Artist. Helen Molesworth revisits Mendieta’s death, the trial that followed, and the silence that continues to surround what really happened that night.
Explain Boston to Me gets into women’s professional sports with Rachel Duranwood in Boston ahead of the Boston Fleet’s home opener and Boston Legacy’s return.
What I’m reading this week:
Family Thai: Bringing the Flavors of Thailand Home. I was lucky enough to meet Arnold Myint and enjoy an amazing lunch at the now-MICHELIN-recommended International Market during a trip to Nashville in October 2023. A top-five meal of all time, I’m excited to attempt to recreate some dishes at home.
Revisiting one of my favorite cities through Last Night in Montreal by Emily St John Mandel. This literary slow burn follows Eli as he searches for Lilia, his girlfriend, who left their Brooklyn apartment to grab a paper but never came back.
